Liverpool is having an amazing and unequalled opening to their 2019-2020 season.A perfect 8 wins from 8 in the premier league has fans dreaming of the first title since 1991. They already have silverware (albeit only the UEFA Super Cup) and they have advanced in the Carabao Cup playing a team of youngsters. The only blemishes on the record are a community shield lose on penalties to Man City and an away defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.
Premier League:
Liverpool have a perfect start and along with Man City's slip ups and no real third contender it is a dream start. While Liverpool have had to work for many of their results they have always come away with the all important 3 points. The next four games may be the difference of a real title race and Liverpool starting to run away with it. They start with an away game at Old Trafford. Man U has been unimpressive and uninspired so far since the 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea on the opening day of the season. It's a fierce Rivalry so anything can happen, but I'd be disappointed with anything but a Liverpool win. Next up is Tottenham at Anfield. With Anfield at their back I expect the Reds to win no matter who they're playing, and given Tottenhams current lack of form and unity it all points to 3 more points. Aston Villa is next and is a tricky away game especially if they build some momentum going into the match. Finally we have Man City at home and if we've taken care of business up until then there will be loads of pressure on City to get a result. The game is at Anfield and if Liverpool conjure up a Victory the fans will truly begin to believe it is our season. With 4 more wins Liverpool would put themselves in runaway position at the top with some wiggle room as the busy winter period starts after the November international break.
Carabao Cup:
A good display and win over MK Dons featuring a lot of youth and some of the first team players getting playing time was exactly what was needed. It was amazing to see Elliot show his talents along with Hoever having a terrific display for the Reds. Liverpool face a more difficult test in the next round against Arsenal though. It'll be interesting to see if Klopp uses some more youth or sticks to his first team players.
Champions League:
This is the only competition that may leave fans a little worried after the loss to Napoli. While Liverpool looked bright for most of the game they couldn't convert and it proved costly when Napoli scored 2 late goals to get the 3 points. Liverpool then jumped ahead of Salzburg 3-0 only to have to then score a late goal to win 4-3 in a much too nervy win. All in all looking ahead I like the Reds chance not only to advance to the knockout stages but to win their group. With two likely wins against Genk and then getting Napoli at home the rest of the group stage sets up nicely for the Reds. The toughest match may be Salzburg on the road but even getting a point from that game would be good enough if the other three are wins. Napoli drawing against Genk also helps Liverpool as well.
All in all Liverpool have had a great start to the year and have positions themselves to have one of their greatest seasons.
